Frequently asked questions
Why Tenscope?
With Tenscope you get a career, not a gig. We provide full-time, long-term projects to remote designers whereas many other companies offer more freelance jobs. This means no more sales calls, negotiating, worrying about improving your rating and competing with others. We take care of all that, and provide reliable, monthly payments.
But life isn’t just about the money. We have nice clients and nice colleagues. Life’s too short to work with people we don’t like. Our aim is to create a culture and environment which doesn’t feel like work!
Can I work part-time?
Yes, you can choose part-time or full-time work.
Can I work remotely?
Yes, you have the option of office, hybrid or remote working.
What are the typical working hours or time zone that I need to work in?
We assume normal working hours 9:00 – 17:00 GMT+1, so most designers will have a few hours overlapping our clients’ working in hours in North America and Europe.
Are there any holidays in the contract?
Yes, but we typically ask that you follow the national holidays of your client you’re assigned to. If you need additional time off, you can coordinate this with the creative lead or project manager responsible for your project. Holidays are included for designers on employment contracts, but unpaid for contract designers.
Will there be an opportunity for training, mentoring and developing my skills?
Absolutely! This is something we value highly at Tenscope, and we offer a combination of on-the-job development, external training and mentoring, depending on where it is you want your career to go.
Who are your clients?
Mainly tech companies and start-ups from North America and Europe.
Will I be able to choose the client or project that I'll work on?
We always try to take designers’ preferences into account when assigning projects. If a designer feels there isn’t a fit on a project, we do our best to re-assign them.
How quickly can I start working?
In most cases you will start on a project in a matter of days, especially if you are full-time ready.
How do we communicate with clients?
We use a combination of Slack, email, and sometimes a video call if there are more in-depth discussions to be had. Some clients ask for twice-weekly meetings, and some are happy just with more ad hoc arrangements.
Which resources does Tenscope provide?
If you are based in one of our design hubs, we will provide you with a laptop and monitor. If you work remotely, we provide a monthly equipment allowance.
How are payments made?
Payments are made at the end of the month. We typically make payments directly into your bank account.
Who is responsible for taxes?
If you are on an employment contract with us, we will pay the local taxes. If you are working with us on a contract basis you are responsible for paying your taxes.
What are your criteria for choosing designers?
There are several crucial conditions:
- You can work at least 20 hours a week.
- You are fluent in English and can have written communication in it.
- You have three or more years of experience in the design area you specialize in.
What level English do you need?
Communication is critical for success when working with English-speaking clients. You’ll need at least a B1 level of English (enough fluency to communicate without effort with our clients and native speakers).
How long does recruitment take?
The process won’t take more than two weeks, depending on everyone’s availability for interviews.
What does your evaluation process look like?
We have created a quick and easy recruitment process:
1. Apply here using our form. We need some basic information about you, then we’ll review your portfolio and be in touch.
2. We arrange a call with you to talk through your experience and what you’re looking for. We’ll ask you to complete a short design test to check your skills.
3. The next step is an interview in English and a more detailed discussion on the available position, and where you’d best fit in.
4. If we both decide to proceed, we agree terms and get started on the induction process, and that’s it!
When will I know if I was successful in my application?
We’ll let you know within a couple of days of your final interview.
Do I need to sign a contract?
If you’re looking for full- or part-time employment, you’ll sign an employment contract with us. If you’re working with us on a contract basis you’ll need to sign our contractor agreement, which contains an NDA, before we start.
